Plural of nouns and adjectives - variations in written French

This bachelor thesis studies plural forms of nouns and adjectives and their variation in written language. The thesis consists of a theoretical and a practical part. The goal of the first part is to introduce the singular : plural opposition in connection with nouns and adjectives in general. After that, the focus is on the concrete formation of the plural form of nouns and adjectives. The practical part of the thesis aims to qualitatively and quantitatively analyse specific nouns that show this kind of variation. This research is done with the help of two corpora: FrWac and L'est Républicain.
The substantivised infinitive in French

v anglickém jazyce: This bachelor thesis deals with the substantivised infinitive in contemporary French. After defining the basic terms (noun, infinitive and substantivisation) the characteristics of the lexicalized subtantivised infinitives and the related infinitive forms are observed in detail. Both of these categories are analyzed from the semantic, morphological, syntactic and marginally also diachronic perspective with simultaneous consultation of authoritative French grammars, dictionaries and other scholar works. The second part which is the actual focus of the work concentrates on marginally used substantivized infinitives which have not been lexicalised yet. The research is carried out on the basis of the French corpus FRANTEXT.
Collective nouns in French

This work is studying collective nouns in French. Its aim is to present this undergroup of nouns and to examine if different places are acceptable at the position of collective animated nouns. After the evaluation of the questionnaire, this work arrives to the conclusion that nouns of places can manage this part.
Competing word-formation suffixes for the indication of female gender in professions

The bachelor thesis Competing word-formation suffixes for the indication of female gender in professions is devided into two parts. The first part summarizes findings provided by linguistic literature on this topic. Suffixes used most frequently are also discussed. The second part provides results of practical research during which the names of feminine professions, found in the dictionary Nová slova v češtině 1 a 2, were entered in the form of lemmas into the corpuses SYN 2000 and SYN 2005, and their frequency was investigated. In the end of the thesis there is a practical dictionary in which meanings of some lesser known proffesions designating substantives are explained.
The gender of French nouns in -a

This bachelor thesis deals with the gender of French nouns in -a. The theoretical part introduces general informations and characterisations of substantival lexical cathegory and grammatical gender. This part also describes priciples of French lexicon extension, introduces history of French loanwords transmission, characterizes generally loanword and other related phenomenons. The practical part is focused on the main research, which is realized by excerption from French explanatory dictionary le Petit Robert. The outcomes are semantically as well as etymologically described and analyzed. Gender fluctuation analysis and frequency examination are based on French corpus FRANTEXT. The end of this study briefly presents nonlexicalized neologisms which were found by visual inspection during the research. Vowel length variation in two-syllable nouns of the "žena" declension type (corpus research)

This thesis aims on vowel variation in two-syllable nouns of the žena declension type. The first part of this work focuses on ways of capturing the matter in chosen grammars of Czech language, various editions of Pravidla českého pravopisu (The Rules of Czech Ortography) and other publications. The second part contains a description of particular stages of extracting two-syllable nouns of the žena declension type with vowel alternation present. From the revised results is then created a list of all the nouns containing varying vowel based solely on the data obtained from corpus. This part also aims on verification of various statements from Czech grammars or other publications, which are relating e.g. to the influence of lexical semantics or to phonetic structure of words on the vowel variation.
Czech ekvivalents of German composites on the example of selected texts form the field of hotel industry and tourism in Austria

The thesis deals with the differences in Czech and German language in the word-formation, specifically the issue of composite. The main part is devoted to the word-formation of both languages possibilities of vocabulary enrichment are given, important terms of the word-formation are defined and word forming kinds are introduced. It is further processed the theory of composite concepts from different authors. The aim of this work is to demonstrate that in German language appear significantly more composites than sketched options of their Czech equivalents and create a list of Czech equivalent structures. As the basis for this analysis are used texts from the field of hotel industry and tourism in Austria, which are available online on the websites of tourist portals (www.oberoesterreich.at and www.niederoesterreich.at).
New Names of Professions

The thesis New Names of Professions is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. In the theoretical part, basic terms from the world of work are defined; the essential term is profession. Furthermore, neologisms are defined in the first part in accordance with professional literature without being confined to denomination of persons. For the purposes of the practical part, new names of professions were excerpted from the list of professions of the employment office and from a list in Učitelské noviny. Their occurrence was further verified using the EDA and Newton media databases and the results of the research were compared with the created list. An alphabetical list of the excerpted professions and a thematically divided list of those professions are an integral part of this work.
Compound nouns in Russian in comparison to Czech
